How to Edit Tech Packs in Adobe Illustrator (in 2 Steps)
When you create a tech pack on our site, you can edit everything right there in the browser — no extra software needed. That’s the easiest way for most people.
But if you’re already comfortable in Adobe Illustrator and want more control, you can pull your PDF into Illustrator and edit it just like any other file. Here’s how:
👉 Prefer video? Watch the quick 30-second tutorial here: How to Edit Tech Packs in Illustrator
Step 1: Open Your PDF in Illustrator
Download your tech pack and open the PDF in Illustrator.
- Make sure you select all pages.
- Leave the box unchecked where it says “Make PDF links for optimization.”
Step 2: Unmask the File
Once the PDF is open:
- Select everything.
- Click Unmask.
Now you’ve got a fully editable Illustrator file. You can move things around, tweak sketches, update text, and adjust the layout however you like.
Which Option Should You Use?
- Edit on the website → Best for speed and simplicity. You can update, export, and send it straight to your manufacturer.
- Use Illustrator → Best if you’re advanced with Illustrator and want more fine-tuned control over design details.
Wrap-Up
Whether you stick with the built-in editor or open your file in Illustrator, the process is simple. The idea is to give you flexibility: a quick way to make edits online, plus the option to go deeper in Illustrator if that’s part of your workflow.
